Welcome to The Yucatán Project, an initiative by the Brothers of Benevolence dedicated to transforming lives in one of Mexico's most historically rich yet economically disadvantaged regions. Rooted in the principles of charity, community, and empowerment, The Yucatán Project embodies our commitment to bringing hope and opportunity to children and families in need.

Why Yucatán?

Yucatán is known for its vibrant culture, ancient Mayan heritage, and stunning landscapes. Yet, beneath this beauty lies a harsh reality:

  • 43.5% of the population lives in poverty, with 8.5% in extreme poverty.
  • Municipalities such as Tahdziú and Chikindzonot experience poverty rates exceeding 70%, placing them among the most deprived areas in the country.
  • Over 60% of children in Yucatán face severe challenges, including lack of education, healthcare, and basic nutrition.
  • Indigenous communities, deeply connected to Yucatán's identity, suffer from disproportionate levels of marginalisation and deprivation.

The need for action is urgent, and the Brothers of Benevolence are stepping forward to lead the charge.

Our Mission

The Yucatán Project is focused on breaking the cycle of poverty and fostering sustainable development through:

  1. Educational Empowerment:

    • Providing resources, scholarships, and programmes to help children access quality education.
    • Offering vocational training to empower families and young adults with skills for a better future.

  2. Community Support:

    • Partnering with local leaders, organisations, and Freemason lodges to implement culturally sensitive and impactful interventions.
    • Creating safe spaces for children to learn, grow, and thrive.

  3. Sustainable Development:

    • Building infrastructure to improve housing, sanitation, and access to healthcare.
    • Promoting long-term self-sufficiency through community-driven projects.
